Pets and Children

When I was in the eight-month of my pregnancy, we bought an English bulldog puppy. It was nine years ago and I remember that we couldn't wait for our child to be born. We had to get something small to hold and love. By the way, they are the cutest puppies of all. We couldn't go anywhere without people stopping us to see, hold and touch him.

To get back to the story, when we took him to our home, we have realized that it wasn't such a good idea. He was tiny and didn't want to be alone. He wanted to sleep only with us, on our bed. We tried to put him in his little bed, bought specially for him, but he was crying all the time. We gave up and let him sleep with us just to be able to get any sleep at all. He also, wasn't trained to go in the toilet, then he was chewing everything, from shoes to tables and walls. But all that paid off when I think about that now.

When our baby came, he was sleeping nowhere but beside him. Wherever our baby was, car seat, cot bed, pushchair or couch, he was there. The real benefits we could see from when our boy was around one year old. Our baby was pulling his face when he came close to him, but our dog was so patient. They were playing outside, on the grass, as they were two kids or two dogs. We never had to worry about my dog hurting my child because they grow up together, literally. It was perfect.

Today we have a healthy nine-year-old boy that was never ill from something serious. I am sure that it is in connection with being with a dog (who was taking a bath on a regular, normal basis) who helped him develop a good immune system. This is not just for saying something but he is great with animals, he is very compassionate. He, actually, has a problem with his younger brother who is almost three, and is not very gentle, not to animals but to anything. That will pass when he gets older.

Unfortunately, our dog is not with us anymore and getting another one should be thought through. If we want a small puppy than we must wait for our younger boy to get older few years, just to be on the safe ground for both sakes.

This is nice story but also a recommendation to other parents who are not totally against fact of children and pets together. It is only about benefits for your kids, growing up with animal. Of course, you can and you should choose a pet that fits your family and than you can be sure that you will all enjoy.
